Barnardo’s appoints new chief digital officer

Barnardo’s has appointed its first chief digital officer to help continue the transformation of the UK’s leading children’s charity as it continues to meet the challenge of improving outcomes for vulnerable children, young people and their families.
Jason Caplin, the award-winning former chief digital officer at the Department for International Trade, will take up his new position on 4 October 2016. In his government role, Jason helped transform its operations. His team’s 'Exporting Is Great' campaign won a national award and gave tens of thousands of British businesses the inspiration and tools to help them sell abroad.
Caplin will lead the charity’s digital transformation across the organisation with an emphasis on digital service design and delivery. His will also drive Barnardo’s digital transformation
strategy ensuring digital engagement at all levels internally and externally, with stakeholders, beneficiaries, commissioners, supporters, staff and volunteers.
Before his role at the Department for International Trade, Caplin designed the digital strategy for the Department of Health and led digital transformation projects for Blue State Digital at Plan, the Royal College of Nursing, UBS and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
Accepting the role, Caplin said: "Barnardo's is far more than a charity – it's a huge social enterprise at the heart of Britain's national fabric. I'm really excited to be joining Barnardo's and developing our existing and future digital services
. There is so much potential to create new spaces to support more children more effectively.
"Nothing can take away from the importance of personal connection. But the tools we give our staff, the way we listen to our children, and the methods through which we reach out, can all work to hugely enrich that relationship. We have to ensure we provide every user of our services with the best possible care, and I think we can only do that if we support powerful personal relationships with shared knowledge, data and insight to provide the best support at the right time."
