The window for applications for Microsoft’s ’AI for Good’ programme has been extended until Friday 20th July, giving charities more time to submit their machine learning and data ideas. Microsoft and Charity Digital are offering funding plus an envisioning workshop with one of Microsoft’s leading AI partners, to help flesh out and build a project using AI to increase their impact. They aren’t looking for fully-formed technical projects from charity applicants, but rather the bare bones of an idea about how to use data intelligently to help their mission. Extending the ’AI for Good’ deadline will give charities more time to prepare their thoughts - they are being asked to submit a just few words on what challenge they want to overcome, how AI might help solve that and what the potential impact might be. For example, AI and machine learning could potentially be used to improve research analysis to support healthcare outcomes. AI chatbots have already been used by a number of charities to interact with supporters and volunteers, offering them advice and guidance. AI is already being used to break down language barriers through live translation, and analyse imagery through facial recognition, as well as creating efficient, scalable processing of volunteer, donor, patient and client data. Sensors could be used to measure key charity indices enabling you to create smart, quick data analysis on ther outputs, and mapping systems could help create more useful visualisations of many kinds of data - for example donation data.
