The Charity Excellence Framework website relaunches with updated resources
The Charity Excellence Framework (CEF) website has relaunched in response to the deepening funding crisis for the charity sector.
Pro Bono Economics estimates that the funding gap will be £10 billion over the next six months. Some large charities have already announced significant redundancies. A recent DSC survey reported over half of charities expected to be insolvent within 6 months.
The number of charity closures quadrupled during the 2008 recession and this will be far worse. Some large charities have already announced significant redundancies (Oxfam, St John Ambulance, RSPCA).
The CEF was first upgraded at the start of the Coronavirus pandemic with new COVID-19 Preparedness Assessments and the hugely popular COVID-19 Funder Database.
This week’s relaunch provides charities with all the tools in one place for them to respond to the economic crisis. The CEF has been substantially upgraded, with new functionality and the COVID19 Response Toolbox.
The Covid-19 Funder Database is now updated weekly and has already been used by tens of thousands of charity fundraisers. It is the only comprehensive source of emergency funding for UK non-profits. Since the crisis began, more than 6,000 charities have joined the CEF community. The information they provide is aggregated to create Big Data for the charity sector, including tracking how well the sector has responded to the crisis.
This data has been used to identify those areas where charities have the most opportunity to respond. The Covid-19 Response Toolbox’s six toolkits target these areas. They enable charity trustees and leaders to create effective recovery plans and use the very limited funding they have far more effectively.
"I’ve been going through things again – and using many of the links and resources that [The Charity Excellence Framework] provide as everything is perfectly aligned to the information I need to either check or find. This saves me a huge amount of time and I can get to the core information that I need straight away – it really is a huge asset to have.”

The CEF with its Covid-19 Funder Database and Toolbox works for any UK based non-profit, including micro-charities. It requires no expertise to use and is completely free. It takes only half a day to complete the system health check of every area of activity.
Partially AI, The CEF puts a charity’s people at the heart of what it does. 6,000+ charities have joined since the crisis began, with about 1,000 new ones joining each month. Nearly half of user ratings are 10/10.
