The World Health Organisation (WHO)’s Covid-19 fund is benefitting from downloads of an e-cookery book that contains more than 50 recipes.
An online cookbook for families to use amid Covid-19 lockdown has been developed to raise money for good causes.
The Locked in Tastes book has been produced by web design and creative experts to raise money for the World Health Organisation’s Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund.
This fund has been set up for WHO’s work in tracking and understanding Covid-19, supporting patients and frontline workers and managing supplies as well as investigating vaccines and treatments.
Those downloading the cookbook are asked to donate via JustGiving to the fund. So far via Justgiving the book has raised £2,700. Donations are also being accepted in Swiss Francs, via Swiss Philanthropy
The e-book contains more than 55 recipes and can be downloaded from a specially created Locked in Tastes website. This offers more information about the book and charity appeal.
“Schools are closed and children are at home. So more meals than ever have to be prepared at home. For most, the only food is home-cooked food. And, for a few young urbanites, cooking at home is a new thing,” according to the e-book organisers.
They add: “This e-book is designed to encourage invention and experimentation in these challenging times, to help people learn new dishes, and perhaps to teach them to others in their household, including those who have hardly ever cooked anything before.
“In lockdown at the moment there are many exasperated families, with kids at home, coping with preparing meals in stressful situations, often faced with a scarcity of the ingredients they need to make their routine dishes.”
The book is also being promoted via a Lockintastes Instagram account offering new recipe ideas and readers’ photos of the meals they have cooked.
