A children’s hospice says it has saved valuable administration time after giving its back office functions a digital make over.
Acorns Children’s Hospice
has announced that it has automated its payroll processes and also digitised human resources functions, including the recording of absences. In addition, a new pensions module is now live to reduce the need for manual calculations.
The changes have been carried out as part of a three-year digitisation plan that started last year to improve efficiency
The plan follows a strategic review by payroll and human resources firm MHR
, which involves identifying areas of the charity's organisation that can be improved through its iTrent system.
GDPR another factor in digital overhaul
The advent of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) last year has been another driver in the charity’s digital overhaul.
“As a charity with limited resources, it is essential that our processes are as efficient as possible so we can focus more time and activities on the children and families we care for,” said Becky Mallon, Head of Human Resources at Acorns Children’s Hospice.
“For many years our payroll process was completely manual with multiple spreadsheets, resulting in time being lost on mundane administrative requirements, which needed to be streamlined and simplified, rather than on more valuable activities. Plus, with GDPR coming into force, it was critical that we updated several processes to remain compliant.”
Steve Westcott, Head of Finance at Acorns Children’s Hospice, added: “The strategic review has already generated significant benefits in the finance department, allowing resource re-allocation away from transactional processing into more value added strategic activities.
