On-demand webinar: Key learnings from our own cyber security breach

13:00 - 14:00
Online

Unfortunately, in January 2021 we fell victim to a cyber-attack – potentially a phishing attack impersonating one of our commercial partners. As a result, the attackers gained access to a file containing a portion of our user’s registration data for a small percentage of our event participants.

While we don’t hold sensitive data on our readers, the irony is not lost on us that an organisation who educates charities on cyber security has been attacked. We are an organisation on our own digital journey, like yourselves.

Though we still consider ourselves a cyber-conscious organisation, the latest attack proves that cyber criminals are more sophisticated and more active in the sector than ever before, and they are developing new techniques at an alarming rate.

The charity sector has never been more vulnerable. We’ve noticed an exponential drop in engagement with cyber security content as organisations look to strengthen other areas due to COVID-19. The charity sector is a big target for cyber attackers and collectively we have some serious work to do over the coming months to fight back against cybercrime.

To kick start that work, we are hosting a webinar on 11 February 2021 at 13:00 to talk through exactly what happened, how we contained it, and the actions that we put in place following the ordeal.

Timings:

04:14 - what was the breach?
05:56 - how did we discover the breach, immediate actions + assessing the extent of the breach
19:25 - what we learnt, other actions + preventative actions, key takeaways
48:07 - Q&A
