COVID:AIDs Digital Strategy

If you search ‘how to write a digital strategy’ online, everyone’s got their own take on what it should and shouldn’t be. You’re shown listicles, guides and platforms, but what about the pure and simple fundamentals?

It’s time to go back to basics. For smaller charities, the sparkly platforms and flashy agencies aren’t always feasible. But that’s okay, you just need to understand the fundamentals of building a digital strategy to be able to create one that works for your current and future service users, staff and audiences. Whether you’re creating a digital strategy for the first time, updating an existing one or writing a new one from scratch, understanding the essentials will help keep you on track.

In this session, Michael will be taking you through the essential things to think about for smaller charities wanting to write a digital strategy. Using his previous commercial experience (as Global Digital Editorial Manager at Red Bull and at the BBC, ITN, and Barclaycard), working with charities and setting up his own, he’ll be offering some actionable pointers on building a realistic, yet ambitious strategy. When working with The Air Ambulance Service, Michael’s strategy planning helped them to double their digital donations and quadruple their Facebook reach and engagement within just six months. He’ll explain the need-to-know basics, and speak about learnings, processes and outcomes that can be simply put into practice. Learnings from the session will include:

  • What to include in your digital strategy when building it from scratch
  • Why it’s better to have a go-to evolving guide rather than a static document
  • Setting achievable goals and expectations
  • Writing the right strategy for the right audience
  • Getting employee/stakeholder buy-in
  • Measuring your strategy’s success using KPI’s

Who is this session for?

  • Micro (income <£10K) – medium (income (£100K-£1M) sized charities
  • Those working in any job role from these charities where they would be looking to plan, build or execute a digital strategy
  • Those with a low – medium understanding of technology and digital strategy
