Resources from the session:

Cyber security impacts every aspect of your charity. In fact, 26% of charities experienced a cyber security breach or attack in the last 12 months, according to the latest UK Government research. If your organisation were to suffer a cyber attack, this would impact everyone and all departments, not just IT. Although it can sometimes feel like a separate issue, cyber security is most successful when it is integrated into your structure and culture.

Good security is about so much more than having the right technology. It’s about creating an environment where leaders have a good relationship with security and know the processes that are in place. Charity leaders don’t need to be technical experts, but they do need to feel comfortable enough to ask the right questions and have the right conversations with their technical experts.

In this session, Becca from the National Cyber Security Centre will be explaining how your charity can nurture a positive cyber security culture. She’ll be explaining how you can embed security into your structure and objectives to empower leaders so they can feel confident in making cyber security decisions alongside their boards. Becca will explain the effect this can have on your organisational security as a whole and sharing some of the free tools out there that can help you. You will learn:

  • Tactics for integrating cyber security into your charity’s culture
  • Four key questions that will generate productive conversations between leaders and the board
  • Useful free tools from NCSC, including tips on using their Board Toolkit
  • Takeaways to help empower your leaders to make educated decisions on cyber security with the board

Who is this session for?

  • Micro (income <£10K) - Supermajor (income <£100M) sized charities
  • Those working in any leadership, Trustee, Board or C-Suite role
  • No specific tech expertise is required to attend this session. It is suitable for charity leaders who sit on/meet with boards and want to strength conversations and actions around cyber security
