Fancy having Roberto Carlos on your Sunday League team? eBay’s making it possible with their new charity partnership
The prayers of Sunday League teams across the UK have been answered. Roberto Carlos – star of Real Madrid and Brazil’s national football team – is available and he wants to join your team.
No, really, he does. As does former England striker Eni Aluko, for that matter. All teams need to do is donate £5 via online retailer eBay and the chances are they’ll find themselves pulling their boots on in the dressing room next to a bona fide football legend.
What’s more, Chris Kamara will also be commentating on both matches, due to take place in February, once the transfer window has closed. Unbelievable, Jeff!
The opportunity has been made available as a result of eBay for Charity’s (the nonprofit arm of eBay) partnership with Football Beyond Borders, a charity that uses football to help change the lives of young people at risk of exclusion.
The partnership also means that all eBay customers will be able to donate to the charity by opting in at the checkout until 30th January.
Founded in 2013, Football Beyond Borders was set up to change the lives of young people who are passionate about football. The charity works with young people who are disengaged at school, helping them finish school with the skills and grades to make a successful transition into adulthood.
The charity runs programmes for secondary school students, consisting of project-based classroom sessions, designed around the school timetable, alongside pitch-based football activities, which focus on developing social and emotional skills.
The impact of Football Beyond Borders’ long-term, intensive support, built around relationships and young people’s passions, is that it saves schools around £12,000 on average, compared to managing an exclusion, and 98% of participants finished the school year.
“Football Beyond Borders do fantastic work supporting young people through the power of football,” says Chris Gale, Head of Social Impact at eBay. “eBay for Charity is all about helping fantastic charities to raise more money and reach more people through our platform, as well as shining a light on the issues that these charities are working on.”
Teams wanting to get involved and be in with a chance of playing with their footballing idols need to enter here before Sunday 30th January.
They think this article’s over. It is now.
