The Aviva Community Fund is offering small and local charities vital support amidst the COVID-19 pandemic
In January, Aviva announced a number of changes to the newly-refreshed Aviva Community Fund, which now offers quarterly-funding and year-round support to causes having a positive impact all across the UK.
This initiative is held in partnership with Crowdfunder, which equips good causes, charities and non-profit organisations with the online crowdfunding skills they need to thrive and survive in these difficult times. The Aviva Community Fund programme also enables organisations to unlock donations from both the Aviva Community Fund, via our employees, and public supporters.
Hundreds of inspiring causes put forward their innovative ideas in the first quarter, which will go on to make a huge impact in communities all over the United Kingdom. For the first time ever, Aviva are sharing out £250,000 amongst their UK Aviva employees every quarter, giving them the chance to decide which projects they personally want to back, alongside further donations from the public.
In response to the unprecedented challenges presented to the sector by COVID-19, small charities need this support more than ever. Karl Wilding, CEO for the National Council of Voluntary Organisations, estimates the UK charity Sector will lose £4 billion in income as a result of the pandemic. On top of reduced donations and the cancellation of many major fundraising events, a surge in demand for services in the coming months will see increasing pressure put on staff and infrastructure.
Charities are more crucial than ever in providing vital support in their communities. That’s the Aviva Community Fund gives them the tools they need to make a difference today.
To make this possible, Aviva are opening up the criteria for this quarterly funding cycle, which is open for applications until 5th May. They are still encouraging causes to submit their forward-thinking ideas and projects, whilst now also broadening their criteria to include applications from causes to adapt or continue their vital services by covering core running costs, so they can help their beneficiaries and communities during this time of need.
During this difficult time for many, it has been remarkable to see the small and local charities across the country adapt their programmes to respond and support their communities facing unique and complex challenges. The Aviva Community Fund can help small charities to gain crucial skills, confidence and experience in crowdfunding, providing a much-needed revenue stream in these challenging times.
The next round of applications for the Aviva Community Fund is open now until 23:59 Monday 5 May. So, if you fundraise, work or volunteer for a brilliant local cause who would benefit from this programme, we’d encourage you to apply.
