The Charity Digital Climate Action Campaign aims to raise awareness about climate change in the charity sector and empower charities to take meaningful action to protect our planet
Climate change is the most pressing matter of our age, the most important issue of our time. Long-term shifts in weather patterns and average temperatures, largely caused by human action, pose an existential threat to humanity. And governments, international bodies, and worldwide organisations have not done enough to mitigate that threat.
We want to do our part. We want to act. So we are calling on charities to take meaningful steps to slow down the impacts of climate change. We are calling on charities to join our mission to become more sustainable throughout 2023. We are calling on charities to act, however they can, in small or big ways, to protect our planet for future generations.
That’s why we are launching the Charity Digital Climate Action Campaign. The Charity Digital Climate Action Campaign aims to raise awareness, provide tools and resources, show how digital can improve environmental sustainability, and much more. We will publish articles, podcasts, webinars, events, templates, and so much more throughout the course of 2023.
Each month of 2023 will take on a different theme, providing essential information on important elements of sustainability and climate change. The themes are as follows:
January: ‘The science’
February: ‘Communities’
March: ‘Digital and tech’
April: ‘Activism’
May: ‘Justice’
June: ‘Leadership’
July: ‘Communication’
August: ‘Individual impact’
September: ‘Finance’
October: ‘Wellbeing’
November: ‘Regulation’
December: ‘The future’
We want you to engage with us, provide information about your sustainability journey, and take steps alongside us. Below we delve into more detail about what you can expect from the Climate Action Campaign and information about how to get involved.
We are starting with a brief survey. The survey aims to give us a broad understanding of the current resources, capacity, comprehension, and appetite for environmental sustainability across the UK charity sector. The survey allows us to gain insight into any gaps in knowledge, allowing us to tailor our content depending on the results.
Please go to the bottom of the page to fill in the survey. Your responses will prove a massive help, allowing us to provide readers, listeners, and viewers with the information they need.
The bulk of the Charity Digital Climate Action Campaign will revolve around various types of content, each relating to the monthly themes specified above. We will publish at least three articles per month, each exploring different elements of climate change and sustainability, each aimed towards giving charities the tools and resources needed to take action.
We will produce four podcasts throughout 2023, bringing in external experts on sustainability and talking about some of the lessons we’ve learned throughout the Campaign. And we will produce two webinars in 2023, both exploring climate change and its relationship with the charity sector, both geared towards providing attendees with practical skills.
We will produce at least two videos, one that will provide quick tips to help your charity go green and another that will uncover the broad impacts of climate change.
We will also incorporate the Climate Action Campaign into our events, ensuring at least one session at our #BeMoreDigital Conference 2023 focuses on sustainability. There will be a stand at the Conference, too, where attendees can learn about our Climate Action Campaign.
On top of all of that, we plan to design and publish templates and checklists to simplify your journeys even further, with detailed instructions helping you to make concrete changes to improve the environmental sustainability of your organisation.
The Charity Digital Climate Action Campaign will have a centralised hub, where readers can access all the content in one place. The hub will also contain a list of important resources, which we will add to throughout 2023, and glossaries for further information.
The hub will feature sections including Training & Skills, Sector Learning, The Essentials, Tools & Resources, and more. The hub will also provide a place for discussion, with a carefully crafted area where you can reach out to us for more information or talk openly with peers.
We will aim to discuss our own journey. We are learning more every day about how to become more sustainable and we want to share our trials and tribulations with our audience.
We are aiming to train our staff in 2023 on environmental sustainability, look into how we can make our working environment and working processes greener, and think about how to gain green accreditation for our charity.
We will write update articles each quarter, explaining some of the changes we’ve made, so you can follow our progress, and perhaps learn from our successes and failures.
We will publish a monthly newsletter (you can sign-up here). The newsletter will compile all content on climate change and sustainability that we have published in the previous month, helping you to access everything in one easy-to-access place.
And you can check out the hashtag #CDClimateAction on social media. You can also follow us for daily updates on LinkedIn and Twitter.
