Symantec is no longer available at a discounted charity rate. We explore the alternatives to help your organisation find the right fit
As of last week, Symantec is no longer available at a discounted charity rate. For existing subscribers, this means that when your current subscription expires, you’ll no longer be able to purchase their products through Charity Digital and will have to purchase them directly at market price.
In the current environment of remote working, cyber security is more important than ever. This is not the time to be unprotected. Charities are at an increased risk of being targeted by cyber criminals. This is because they are often seen as an ‘easy target’.
With more charity staff working remotely than ever before, and therefore more vulnerable to a cyber attack, charity digital leaders must take extra precautions to secure their systems and data.
Charities have a legal and ethical duty to protect user data. This is particularly true of charities that work with vulnerable service users.
Having known about this for some time we have been able to identify similar products that can help you keep your charity safe and secure.
The following products will help you to replace Symantec as a vital part of your cyber security infrastructure.

Avast Business Antivirus is an award-winning, full-featured antivirus solution designed for small and medium-sized enterprises. It keeps devices protected from today’s sophisticated cyber threats – such known ransomware variants or never-seen-before, zero-day attacks.
One aspect of Avast’s product that will be particularly relevant to charities in the current climate is Avast CloudCare - an all-in-one security platform delivered entirely through the cloud.

The Dreadnought Centre found that Avast CloudCare allowed them to protect a dispersed team with varying levels of IT skills. They were able to set up their new systems quickly and easily to make sure that remote workers were fully-protected. They are also able to remotely initiate virus scans at regular intervals to safeguard against new threats.
Avast is also scalable, so you can provide layered security services to multiple offices, networks, devices and home workers. Having an Avast subscription also helps you achieve your Cyber Essentials Accreditation, meaning that your users will feel reassured that their data is secure.
