The charity sector is not immune to cyber threats, but, fortunately, there are plenty of measures they can take to protect against them.
The Cyber Threat Report: UK Charity Sector, developed by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) to help charity boards and trustees make informed decisions about cyber security, has helpfully brought together information about the risks that charities face from cyber criminals and the solutions that can help mitigate them.
The report demonstrates the ongoing threat to the sector as more charities turn to digital for delivering services, reaching donors, and much more. The aim is to empower charities to understand the cyber risks, the methods and the signs, and help them identify the right solutions to prevent or reduce their impact.
“All charities ultimately rely on public trust and continued public generosity,” writes Helen Stephenson, Chief Executive of the Charity Commission for England and Wales. “So the impact of any cyber attack on a charity can therefore be devastating, not just for the organisation and those who rely on its services, but also in undermining public confidence and support.”
Below, you can download a handy infographic, created in collaboration with the NCSC, summarising the findings of the Cyber Threat Report: UK Charity Sector and outlining ways that charities can better protect themselves.
