Charities urged to take part in 2020 Charity Digital Skills Report survey

The report aims to find out how well the charity sector is adapting to changing technologies this year.
Charities are being asked to take part in this year’s Charity Digital Skills Report, the annual barometer of the sector’s use of digital technology.
The report aims to create an up to date picture of current digital opportunities within charities as well as risks the sector is facing. It will also help charities benchmark their digital capabilities.
To take part charities are being urged to fill out a survey by midnight 3 April, which should take around 10 -15 minutes. The results will be shared from 5 May.
Those taking part are also being offered the chance to win one of ten £20 Amazon vouchers.
The survey is being run by Skills Platform and Zoe Amar Digital and supported by digital skills partnership The Catalyst.
According to Zoe Amar the survey has been updated this year after feedback from charities.
“So this year we’re exploring new areas including funding for digital and service design, as well as looking at topical issues such as diversity and digital ethics. Whatever stage you’re at with digital we’d love to hear from you,” she said.
“We’ll share the results with you in May. We’re delighted to be working with Skills Platform again on this research, and we’s also partnering with The Catalyst.”
2019’s results
Last year’s report found that more than half of charities (52 per cent) do not have a digital strategy, which is an increase over the previous two years.
In addition, more than two thirds (68 per cent) of charities rated their board’s digital skills as low. A similar proportion (67 per cent) want to use digital to increase their impact.
The survey also found that more than half of charities (53 per cent) are aware of emerging technology developments such as artificial intelligence but aren’t planning around them yet. Just 12 per cent are planning how AI and other new tech can change their charity.
