Charity groups have been handed more than £500,000 to develop a suite of digital tools to promote safeguarding in the voluntary sector.
The National Lottery Community Fund
has handed £570,000 to the Safer Social Sector Partnership, which is coordinated by the NCVO
and comprises 13 charities and third sector organisations, including NSPCC
and the National Association for Voluntary and Community Action
The partnership says the suite of charity safeguarding resources will be easily accessible, cover latest safeguarding issues and be tailored to meet a broad set of needs across the voluntary sector, from small organisations to large charities.
Safeguarding gateway to launch
It will also include podcasts, videos and the delivery of a ‘safeguarding gateway’ on the NCVO’s KnowHow
website. The first steps in the project will be to consult with the sector on issues such as design.
“Safeguarding is a key priority for everyone within the voluntary sector, regardless of the size of the organisation or the activity it carries out,” said NCVO Head of Policy Elizabeth Chamberlain.
“The strength and breadth of this partnership is testament to how committed we all are to getting it right by coming together to drive improvement, creating environments that are safe for all."
NSPCC Chief Exectutive Peter Wanless added: “The voluntary and community sector has a vital role to play in safeguarding children and adults at risk from abuse and other forms of harm. It also plays a key part in helping local communities to keep their most vulnerable members safe."
“The NSPCC has a long history of supporting the sector and is delighted to be a member of this partnership. The lottery funding will enable us to improve and extend our existing range of resources to enable even the smallest organisations to take the steps they need to take to keep children safe.
Software company Neontribe
is also involved, as a digital partner.
“By sharing our digital experience and building on the great work already going on, we can help make sure that the right information reaches people in small organisations and charities in the best possible way,” said Neontribe Service and Strategy Designer Kat Quatermass.
The National Lottery funding for the suite of resources is part of a joint £1.2m Safeguarding Training Fund
with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. The remaining money will be spent on training, with a procurement process to handle this work still underway.
