With advice from Access’s free resource hub, we explore how charities can make the most out of their web content
Charity websites are a little like a shop window. They are a place for organisations to set out their stall, to show supporters what they can do, and to tell their story in their own words.
Used well, websites can offer supporters a unique insight into the way the organisations works and what their donations are being used for. It is an opportunity for charities to take control of the narrative and communicate directly with those who care about their cause.
With the right content, charities can build an engaged audience and answer questions they didn’t realise they had. They can use articles to raise awareness of their mission, videos to show the work they do on the ground, or even publish a podcast to talk through the challenges they are facing as an organisation.
From volunteering stories to fundraising appeals, it is all part and parcel of a charity’s brand presence. Content – or lack thereof – can make or break a charity when it comes to reaching new supporters and keeping existing ones engaged.
It is therefore important that organisations keep their content updated, fresh, and ultimately aligned with their overall strategy. Good content puts charities on the map.
Helpfully, charity software provider Access has created a new resource hub to guide charities through the process of creating a successful content strategy as part of their website plans.
The hub offers advice on everything it takes to build a successful website, including tips on how to structure it and make it inclusive. Through the hub, charities can access the ‘The Successful Charity Website Playbook’ as well individual guides, articles, and webinars on key topics.
The playbook aims to help charities make the most out of their website and its content, and demonstrates the importance of measurement and audience listening, among other things.
It gives ideas on what sort of content might work – whether that’s thought leadership pieces or inspirational case studies – with suggestions on how to share it with donors and other stakeholders.
