The event is being staged by fitness website Classfinder to help Women’s Aid ramp up its online support and increase opening hours for families living in abusive homes.
An online exercise marathon is taking place this weekend to help domestic abuse support charity Women’s Aid cope with a surge in demand for its services.
During the first two weeks of lockdown the charity reported a 41 per cent increase in users visiting its Live Chat service to help women and children living in abusive homes during lockdown.
To support the charity in extending its online support and opening hours, exercise class website Classfinder is to stage a 12-hour Fitness Marathon on 10 May.
The event features a raft of 30-minute live streamed exercise slots for people who are encouraged to donate to the charity via Just Giving. Donors can take part in as many sessions as they like.
Women’s Aid is also carrying out social media fundraising through its #SupportSurvivors appeal, which is also being promoted by Classfinder.

“We want to make a difference to those that are suffering domestic abuse during this time. We will raise vital funds for the charity with our virtual marathon as well as highlighting that not everyone is safer at home during this time,” said Classfinder.
The classes are for all abilities and include sessions for beginners and children. Inclusive sessions offering “gentle exercises for beginners with less mobility” are also being staged.
Earlier this month the government announced a £76m package of funding to support victims of domestic abuse, sexual violence and modern slavery.
