Editing videos has never been easier. Below we share the best apps for editing videos on your phone to put on Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and other socials
Videos are an integral part of our daily lives now and expected on most social media platforms. With the growing demand for video content, there are a plethora of video editing apps available for smartphones. These apps make it easy for anyone to edit and create videos for social media. You don’t need the same technical skills you once did.
With so many options available, however, it can sometimes feel a little overwhelming when deciding the most effective app to use. To help you out, we’ve compiled a list of the best apps for editing videos for social media on your phone and the benefits of each one.
Editing videos within the Instagram and TikTok apps are often the easiest and quickest way to edit videos.
Instagram allows you to easily add, cut, and move different video clips and you can add text, music, filters, and GIFs. You can also speed up or slow down your videos within the app.
The best feature of editing in Instagram is the use of the templates that have already been created and used by others. Just choose a reel you like that has ‘use template’ on it and you can instantly recreate a similar video with timing that matches the music or sound.
TikTok’s built-in video editor is similar to Instagram. You can save the videos in both apps as drafts, so if you’re feeling creative, make a few videos at once and save them in your drafts until you’re ready to publish.
InShot is a popular video editing app that offers a variety of features, including video trimming, merging, and adding music. It also offers a range of filters and effects to enhance your videos, as well as the option of colour correction.
InShot also enables you to resize a video for different apps, so you could create a video for Instagram and quickly resize it to fit Facebook, TikTok, or other social media.
The app is free to use, but there is a watermark on videos that can only be removed by paying for the premium version. Despite this, the app is a great choice for those who want to edit their videos quickly and easily.
Videoleap is great for different cinematic effects, including changing the background. It has easy-to-use speech-to-text tools so you can transcribe any words on your videos for accessibility.
It has lots of different trending filters and interesting transition styles and effects. It also has a ‘vanish’ feature that enables you to remove things from your video, which could be useful if there are people in the background of videos you don’t have permission to have in them.
Most of the features can be used in the free version, but to access all the features you will need to subscribe to the premium version, which is around $36 a year.
FilmoraGo is a free video editing app that is popular among beginners. It offers a range of features, including video trimming, adding music and text, and a range of filters and effects.
Filmora allows you to use a green screen application, adding yourself or others onto different backgrounds, which can be fun! It also does auto synchronisation to music and words.
The app is easy-to-use and does not come with a watermark on videos. But the downside is that the app’s features are limited, and it may not be suitable for those who want to create highly professional videos.
LumaFusion is a professional video editing app that offers a range of features, including multiple video and audio tracks, colour correction, and a range of effects and transitions.
It is a bit more advanced than some of the other apps, so if you are just starting out I would use one in the list above and save this one for when you have had a bit more practice.
Many of the apps listed are similar, with each offering only minor differences and additions. You really need to work out which one is best and easiest for you to use.
It’s easiest to start with in-app editing and then when there are things you want to do that the in-app editing doesn’t allow, move onto one of the more advanced apps.
