Insights
Ian McLintock of Charity Excellence offers digital fundraising insights gleaned from their unparalleled store of UK charity data.
This Insight Briefing looks at how effective the sector is at digital fundraising, using data from the Charity Sector Data Store.
Online has become more important in recent years, will continue to do so and will be particularly important in the near-term. Social media is cheap or free, easy to use and many of us aren’t exploiting its potential. That makes it an opportunity, particularly as coronavirus impacts more traditional fundraising.
You can find links to a whole range of digital resources in the Charity Excellence Coronavirus Toolkit 2 - How to survive and thrive. This briefing focusses only on digital fundraising, so includes some, but not all of the website metrics. All 6 website metrics are at amber and responding to these offers us opportunities to further promote digital fundraising.
The Data Store anonymously aggregates the information input into the free Charity Excellence Framework platform. The platform works for any non-profit, requires no expertise and everything is free, with your results displayed on an interactive dashboard that allows you to see instantly what your key priorities are. Login now and by tomorrow, you’ll have assessed everything, including your coronavirus preparedness.
The master database holds nearly 500 assessment questions, covering every area of activity. So far, there are just over 300,000 scored assessment statements.
The system assesses 9 areas for digital fundraising, all of which are at amber. That is, the majority of charities say they are not doing these well. That makes this an opportunity for us.
If you already use the CEF, simply go to the Query menu and select ’digital fundraising’ and/or ’website’ to generate an assessment report for your charity, download an action plan and access the system resources. If not, the 9 metrics are below, with the lowest scoring at the top, as these represent the greatest opportunity for us.
The CEF works on a community collaboration basis. Can you help me help others by adding to this resource? If so, comment below. All contributions will be credited.
