Charity Digital goes #UnderTheScope for LGBT+ History Month 2024
Since it was founded in 2004, LGBT+ History Month has sought to celebrate LGBT+ people, eliminate prejudice through education, reclaim the past, and create a fairer, more inclusive future. In 2024, the theme for LGBT+ History Month is Medicine: #UnderTheScope.
The 2024 theme will celebrate LGBT+ peoples’ contribution to the field of Medicine and Healthcare. Throughout February 2024, Schools OUT UK (the charity behind LGBT+ History Month) will “showcase the amazing work of LGBT+ staff across the NHS and in other healthcare settings, in providing healthcare, especially during the pandemic”.
Concurrently, the charity will shine a light on the complex nature of the LGBT+ community’s experience of receiving healthcare throughout history up to present day.
Charities across the LGBT+ community and beyond are coming together to celebrate LGBT+ History Month.
To ‘claim their past’ Schools OUT UK have released a series of videos spotlighting key LGBT+ historical figures in medicine and healthcare, including Sophia Jex Blake (1840–1912), Ewan Forbes (1912–1991), and George Ward/Cherry Valentine (1993–2022).
